BECOMING A CHEF & CULINARY ARTS TRAINING

It's important to first determine if you need to choose one of the culinary arts colleges to become a successful chef.

Becoming a leading chef
takes a certain amount of culinary arts training and development at an accredited [top cooking school].  That training may begin as hands on training during a person's high school years as they begin to work in a what can be defined as a chef's apprentice  as a prelude to becoming a full fledged chef.

While training to become a chef the individual has a chance to experience all facets of how a restaurant is run and the amount of personnel it takes to be successful.  Becoming a full fledged chef requires more than just holding a normal every day cooking position.  To be one of the top chefs in any city, further education at one of the leading culinary arts colleges or top cooking schools where completion of specific course modules in culinary arts training is required.  One may have a natural talent for cooking, but that doesn't make one a great chef.

Becoming a chef requires understanding of the basics of cooking, menu planning, personnel supervision, knowledge of utensils and cooking apparatus, budgeting, profit and loss, and more.  Though some of this can be learned on the job, most notable restaurants require some type of culinary arts training above and beyond high school.

Some high schools do offer programs in culinary arts training at their technical schools.  Even so, most of those graduates go on to a leading or top cooking school or one of the best culinary arts colleges to get diplomas, certificates, associate or bachelor degrees to further their goal of becoming a chef.

Remember, one of the most important things you can do for yourself when looking to find a top cooking school is do research.

Not all cooking schools are created equal.  Do a search on google to see what culinary schools are considered to be top.  Type in several different queries like most popular cooking schools, or cooking school ranks, or culinary arts college rankings, best culinary arts colleges, etc.

Write down your priorities.  Do you need to stay close to home?  Do you have a budget?  If you can relocate, where do you want to relocate to?  Have you talked with any distinguished chefs in your own area to see where they went to cooking school or culinary arts college?  Have you spoken with the placement offices of the colleges you have identified that you want to attend?  How many graduates got jobs and went on to be chefs in well known restaurants or did they all wind up as line cooks somewhere?

These are just some of the important questions.  You can find out more by reading the rest of the pages on this site.  You want the next picture to be a picture of your life!
