[CULINARY ARTS COLLEGE SITE] INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS WITH GREAT TASTE!

Welcome to the world of culinary arts colleges.

Culinary arts colleges are a very popular choice among high school students and even two year degreed college students today.  There are many more schools to choose from today in the culinary field and those colleges are offering a wide variety of interesting courses.  Some culinary arts schools even offer part of their degrees in the form of online courses.  Thinking logically though, it would be great to have the convenience of taking all of your cooking courses online, but it wouldn't be much fun.  You would not have the opportunity to touch and feel the foods you are creating, nor interact with some of the greatest chefs in the world who have taken on the task of teaching this delicate subject.

When choosing a culinary arts college site
, reputation is important but it isn't as important as other factors.  You should be more concerned with the types of courses offered, the convenience of the location, convenience with your schedule especially if you are working full time, and the cost for what you get.

Many culinary arts colleges that have the best reputations are also located in the major metropolitan cities where the cost of living is high and the cost to attend the college is greater.  Your choices will depend on your career goals and how seriously you plan to take your culinary degree.

LOGICAL STEPS YOU SHOULD TAKE TO FIND THE BEST   (continued next page)

On another note, if you enjoy cooking but don't think you want to make a career out of it, look online in your area for cooking schools instead of a culinary arts college site because they will offer you a hands on environment where you don't get a degree but you do learn to become a better cook, even if it is just for home and your family.

There are many ways to determine if a culinary arts college is the right college for you.  Make sure you choose carefully because, as you will find on this site, a wrong choice can be very costly.

We will be trying to add more specific information about other culinary schools over time and some helpful information about the types of jobs one might expect upon graduation.

If you don't make it to the inside pages of this website, be sure to remember that finding a job once you graduate is key to your success.  Before you even sign up to attend a culinary arts college, be sure that the school offers you some type of placement service or at least check to see what their placement record is.  You don't want to attend a cooking school or a culinary arts program that is going to lead to the unemployment line, especially when you consider the total cost.

It's easy enough to call the college you are considering and just ask if they have a placement service and if they do, what has their success been in placing new graduates.  Be specific too.  They may have a great placement rate but it may be just for individuals who have graduated who want to work in small restaurants.  They may even just be line cooks.  If you are planning on being a great chef, a line cook placement won't be of any help to you, so be more specific in your question according to the field and position you are most interested in.

You will most likely have a large loan to pay back at the end of your degree so this type of question is critical.

What is the first thing you should do when deciding which culinary arts college you want to attend?

1.  Determine why you want to attend a culinary arts college, ie. what are your goals for attending.

Once you have determined that, you will know whether it is worth the expense to relocate to a culinary arts college outside of your commuting distance.
